sms brummer Brummer Class.  Some components for their turbines were taken from never completed Russian battlecruisers which were under construction in and for which Russia had ordered some components from Germany before war broke out.

SMS Brummer
Built Vulcan, Stettin, laid down 1915, completed April 1916.

SMS Bremse
Built Vulcan, Stettin, laid down 1915, completed July 1916.

Size:
Length 135 m waterline 140.4 overall, beam 13.2 m, draught 5.94 m, displacement 4,385 tonnes  load 5,856 tonnes full load.

Propulsion:
2 shaft Navy turbines, 33,000 shp, 28 knots

Trials:
Brummer 42,797 shp = 28.0 knots
Bremse 47,748 shp = 28.1 knots

Armour:
1.5-0.5in belt, 0.5in decks

Armament:
4 x 150mm (5.9in) SKL/ 45cal (4 x 1), 2 x 88mm (2 x 1), 2 x 500mm (19.7in) TT, 400 mines

Comments:
Minelaying cruisers with emphasis on high speed and mine capacity at the expense of gun armament and protection.  Crew 309.

October 1916 II Scouting Group.
December 1916 IV Scouting Group.
1917-1918 Various mine laying operations and raids against enemy merchant ships off Norway.
17 October 1917 Successfully attacked convoy off Norway sinking British destroyers HMS Mary Rose and Strongbow along with nine merchant ships.
Post war interned and scuttled at Scapa Flow.

SMS Brummer despite being primarily a minelayer was best known for the a conventioanl cruiser style attack on a convoy to Norway during which along with Bremese they sank the two escorting British destroyers and then nine merchant ships in the convoy. sms brummer
